Swim Like a Fish Swim Club (1-hour classes)
Tryouts Required. By Appointment Only. Contact Kathy Morgenstern at kmorgenstern@jccmanhattan.org or 646.505.4456 to schedule an appointment. Your swimmer must complete 25 meters of all four competitive strokes. This program is broken down into two classes. Our Endurance Workout is geared towards swimmers that want to continue working on their endurance and proper stroke technique. Our Competitive Training Workout is for swimmers that want to also learn how do competitive starts and turns and other racing skills to potentially try-out for the JCC Thunderbirds Swim Team. All Swim Like a Fish Swim Club swimmers participate in a Sunday class from 12:30-1:30pm. Each swimmer will also choose between a 4 pm-5 pm Endurance Workout on Tuesday or our Competitive Training Workout on Wednesday class. Minecraft: Engineering + Video Game Design 10-12 Years
Makers will learn fundamental programming and engineering skills through fun weekly projects in video game design and programming, and Minecraft engineering. In video game design, makers learn computer science and programming by creating their own animations and games using MIT’s Scratch visual programming language designed for young programmers. Scratch allows kids to make games, stories, and interactive art by dragging and dropping code blocks into a project space. In Minecraft engineering, makers learn new masteries in circuitry, engineering, architecture, computing, and design while building amazing machines, devices, and structures in Minecraft. MakerState has designed a curriculum around the education version of the game, Minecraft.edu, that brings kids into new passion and mastery in engineering, circuitry, computing, physics, and design, as well as meta-skills in collaboration, communication and digital citizenship. MakerState has collaborated with experienced Minecraft developers to create a Challenge project series that maximizes the potential of this fun, popular learning tool. Meet a Mentor 11-16 Years (SN)
Children will be grouped with mentors who will assist in hands-on studio classes and help build relationships. Students will learn basic kitchen skills and how to cook simple dinner recipes. Tweens After Dark: Hands-on Cooking Party Grades 4-8
You're invited to the biggest cooking party in town. Create different party menus while listening to music and hanging out with friends. Snacks and dishes include: make-your-own fruit kabobs; chocolate-covered strawberries; bagel chips with assorted dips; red pepper hummus in cucumber cups; soft Asian summer rolls in sweet and savory dipping sauce; cheddar cheese balls; sparkling pomegranate punch; soft and crunchy tacos; guacamole with homemade tortilla chips; cream cheese wontons; deviled eggs; "fried" zucchini sticks; and garlic parmesan potato wedges.
