School Age Art

Art

Young children learn and explore through their senses, and the experience and process is always the most exciting part of any art activity. In art, children can learn and explore through exciting and messy open-ended art materials. Little ones learn about colors, textures, and shapes while developing fine motor skills and expressing their creativity through unconventional and open-ended materials.

Classes include:

  • Ceramics (5-7 Years): Join us in the ceramics studio for this introductory class. Children will gain familiarity with clay and make artistic sculptures, bowls, and more.

  • Wearable Arts and Textile Design (7-10 Years): This class introduces children to the fun of fiber arts, including knitting, crochet, embroidery, hand-sewing, weaving, and much more. Young artists will spend time learning techniques for each material that they will then use to create one-of-a-kind accessories and artwork.

Science

Children are natural scientists, and from birth they begin exploring, investigating and learning about the world that surrounds them. When you expose your children to science early, they can begin to sort out their own environment as well as their place in it, all while having a fun time using their senses. Creative problem-solving, investigation, and learning through trial and error are lifelong skills that can be developed early through open-ended exploration of nature.

Classes include:

Cooking

By learning basic cooking skills and transforming fresh ingredients into a delicious, balanced meal, children learn that real food is delicious and that cooking is an important—and fun—way to take care of yourself. In fact, one of the best tools we have to prevent childhood obesity is teaching our kids to cook. Whether measuring ingredients, cutting a recipe in half, or just scooping out cups of flour, cooking is a great way to reinforce math skills. Not to mention teaching young cooks science, language, problem-solving, sharing, fine motor skills, reading, and culture.

Classes include:

  • Little Chefs International (4-6 Years): Children cook their way across the world, making several stops along the way, all from inside our kitchen. With a focus on safe practices and fresh, whole food ingredients, kids will learn various cooking methods as they dice, slice, and saute their way through new and exciting flavors. All recipes are nut-free; dietary laws observed.

  • Kids Cook Around the World (7-9 Years): On this culinary journey, kids gain knowledge about different cultures while preparing global delicacies. With a focus on fresh, healthful ingredients, kids practice knife skills and explore various cooking methods as they cook their way through the exciting flavors of India, Morocco, Italy, Japan, France, and Mexico. All recipes are nut fee; dietary laws observed.
