Adaptations Job Services
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)
The Adaptations Job Program is proud to partner with the New York Sate Department of Education in celebrating NDEAM and our supportive community partners and employers. We believe that businesses, organizations and communities are made better when they embrace differences and celebrate diversity. We believe that employment enriches every life.
The mission of the Adaptations Job Program is to work with participants to maximize their highest level of vocational independence, from work-readiness opportunities to job development and, ultimately, integrated employment. We are unique because we are part of a larger supportive community, the Adaptations community, which allows us take a holistic approach to job development, intertwining social, recreational, and vocational goals. We support participants by embracing individuality with the understanding that the better you know yourself and your behaviors, the more informed and productive your career search, placement, and future will be.
The Community Work Experience is a four-day-a-week, six-month internship opportunity that allows participants to gain meaningful work experience in three different departments within a business setting. The goal of the internship is to prepare participants for employment. There are three eight-week rotations in various departments in a number of industries, including hospitality, real estate, mailroom, print shop, and library. Three days each week are spent working, and the fourth day includes Social Skills in the Workplace, a workshop that outlines and formalizes the goals practiced at the internship site. Topics include making a good impression, problem-solving and asking for help in the office, taking the perspective of colleagues, and more. These topics are then individualized and practiced at the internship site. An onsite job coach provides support to participants as well as to department supervisors to facilitate onboarding and the structuring of the work day.
Please note: A limited number of internship spots are available. An interview and intake are required for participation. For individuals currently enrolled in ACCES-VR, we offer employment services leading to integrated employment.

JobPREP (Preparation, Rehearsal, Employment Program)
Are you seeking employment and would like to gain insight into hidden social rules at work? We offer opportunities to learn about workplace etiquette, including developing or improving social skills in the workplace, first impressions, time management, interviewing practice, resumes, cover letters, and more. Each session includes interactive lessons, activities, handouts, and additional resources.
In addition to weekly sessions held onsite at the JCC, we offer professional development opportunities that include visits to different businesses and organizations to learn about office culture and career opportunities. Participants will prepare for the visit and go to the business, followed by a next-day processing review of the experience.
You landed the job—now how do you keep it? Join us for lively discussion and support on how to maximize your success at work. As a group we will discuss common problems and situations that arise at work. We will problem-solve and troubleshoot as we share our own work experiences, along with common pitfalls and challenges. Bring a snack and a willingness to share challenges and successes you experience at work.
