Rebecca Manson

This three-part digital course broadcast from Rebecca Manson's studio will help students at any level build their understanding of clay as a material and in culture. While the studio is at the core of ceramic practice, taking time to learn about clay outside of the studio is essential to any artist's growth — this is an opportunity to engage née subject matter! The curriculum is designed to give students tools to think differently about the ceramic process, to continue a thriving creative practice at home, and to bring new skills into their repertoire that will continue to serve them when they return to the studio. Class one will involve a tour of Rebecca's studio, serving as an introduction to various unconventional techniques, concluding with a discussion about contemporary ceramics. Class two will provide an overview of the chemistry of clay and glaze, and glaze mixing and application methods will be demonstrated. Class three will consist of wheel demos at the live request of students. A list of optional supplementary resources will be provided.
