In this series, we will examine core themes in Megillat Eicha (Lamentations), the classic biblical text of destruction, which is read on Tisha B’Av, taking place this year on July 29–30. Through an analysis of the historical background and context to the fall of Jerusalem in 586 BCE as well as uses of Biblical poetry and midrashic commentaries, we will explore themes of destruction and despair as well as comfort and continuity.

This series will be taught by Rabbi Adam Mintz and Shira Hecht-Koller, Esq., and is presented in partnership with 929 English, the global Tanakh study project. This series is open to all levels of learners; no knowledge of Hebrew or text skills is required.
